Maud Vanhauwaert

Maud Vanhauwaert is a writer and literary performer. She examines creative ways to bring poetry to the stage and is experimenting with conceptual and visual arts. 

She was a finalist in the World Championship of Poetry Slam and in the ‘Leids Cabaret Festival’. Her poetry debut ‘Ik ben mogelijk’ was awarded the Price for female débuts.  Her second poetry album, ‘Wij zijn evenwijdig_’ was honoured with the Hughues C.Pernath Prize, as well as the Audience Award of the Herman De Coninck Competition for the most beautiful poem. She was the city poet of Antwerp for two years, linking poetry to other disciplines. This resulted in the book ‘Het stad in mij’, awarded with the Jan Campert Prize. In 2023 she published her first novel ‘Tosca’. It was shortlisted for the ‘Libris Literature Price’.

Maud obtained a master’s degree in Literature and Linguistics at the university of Antwerp and also a master’s degree in the theatre academy of Antwerp. She is a teacher in both institutes. Twice a week she writes a short column for the national newspaper De Morgen.
