Miltiades B. Hatzopoulos

Miltiades B. Hatzopoulos was born in Athens in 1944.

He read Economics at the Law Faculty of the University of Paris for two years, graduated from the Classics Department of the Sorbonne in 1967, and obtained his Ph.D. and, later, his Habilitation from the same university.

During most of the dictatorship period he settled in France, worked as a high school teacher of French, Latin and Greek, and served as a reserve officer in the French army. After his return to Athens, he worked as an editor at a publishing company and, later, as a research scholar at the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF), but returned for three years to France as a Greek History professor at the University of Paris X, Nanterre. From 1992 to 2011 he directed the Centre for Greek and Roman Antiquity at the NHRF. M. B. Hatzopoulos is a member of the Institut de France (Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres), the Athens Archaeological Society, the German Archaeological Institute etc.

He has extensively lectured and carried out research in Europe and North America, and has published twenty volumes of epigraphic collections, monographs, edited volumes and some 150 articles and book reviews in French, English and Greek.

He is also the author of three novels in Greek.

For his work he has received the Bronze Medal of the Academy of Athens.
